Community-Engaged Learning (CEL)

Community Engaged Learning (CEL) encourages students to develop knowledge and skills while learning from and working with community organizations in pursuit of a more just society. The University of Toronto has a long commitment to enacting CEL supported by its Centre for Community Partnerships; it is also a recommended educational approach by the CECCS for developing students' experience on sustainability-related projects. SCAN has been developing partnerships with many community organizations to support course-based and co-curricular forms of CEL, as well as independent opportunities for students to volunteer with our partners for formal and informal learning experiences related to Environmental & Sustainability Education, climate justice, and climate action.  Students interested in CEL learning should discuss opportunities with their course instructors and/or faculty advisor.

Below is a list of community partners that have worked with OISE faculty and students on CEL projects in the past.
