The task of remembering your passwords for multiple sites/applications, ongoing need to create more complex passwords and storing them securely can be addressed by adopting the Password Manager.
1Password is a cloud-based password management tool available to faculty, librarians and staff at University of Toronto. 1Password is a tool that can be installed on Windows, Mac, iOS, Android devices.
Initial setup
The initial device and browser you use to join will be designated as trusted and will be used to confirm access to your 1Password account from additional devices and browsers. Be sure to log in for the first time from a device you can have present when you add additional devices (e.g., mobile device, personal device). You will then be able to confirm access to 1Password from any trusted device and browser going forward.
- Register for 1Password “business” account by creating a ticket with Education Commons
- Once an account has been created for you within 1Password, you will receive an invitation to your utoronto.ca email.
- Sender: accounts@1password.ca
- Subject: Join University of Toronto on 1Password
- Join the University of Toronto 1Password instance by either:
- Selecting the Join now link within the invitation email, or
- Visit https://utoronto.1password.ca directly and enter your utoronto.ca email address.
- Sign in with your UTORid and password. You may likely receive a UTORMFA prompt via Duo.
- Your 1Password Business account has been set up.
Activate a 1Password Family account
All individuals with a 1Password Business account will be provided with a complimentary 1Password Families account for their personal account information.
