Paul C. Alexander
Biography
Dr. Paul C. Alexander teaches within the Department of Curriculum, Teaching, and Learning at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto. Originally from Vancouver, Canada, Paul spent several years abroad teaching digital media, instructional technology, course design and educational technology at the graduate-level to pre-service teachers. During this period, most of Paul’s efforts regarding professional development and research centred around the examination of social presence within online culture and teacher education exchanges among European, North American, and Asian university participants.
Upon returning to the University of Toronto, Paul has continued his professional development of implementing online and blended learning approaches in education to explore gamification elements of leaderboards, progress bars, and peer-awarded badges. Currently, Paul is primarily involved in research that explores the use of virtual reality headsets to showcase 360° classroom videos as a means of teacher professional development, and how the integration of annotation tools within such immersive technologies may enhance one’s teaching pedagogy.
