Biography

Carrie is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computing Science at the University of Alberta where she runs the EdTeKLA Research Group. Before joining the U of A, Carrie was a postdoctoral research associate with the Learning Research and Development Center (LRDC) and Center for Instructional Development and Distance Education (CIDDE) at the University of Pittsburgh.

Her MSc (University of Saskatchewan, ARIES lab) and PhD (University of Toronto, TAGlab) focused on the design, development, and evaluation of adaptive language-learning technologies. More broadly, she uses the detailed observations of learner actions within educational technologies to model learner knowledge, skills, and behaviours. These models are then used to better understand learners, inform technology design, adapt the support that is given to learners, or provide learners with appropriate feedback about their learning progress and activities.
