Maíra Tavares Mendes

Biography

Dr. Mendes has been an Assistant Professor at OISE in both the Higher Education and the Educational Leadership and Policy Programs since July 2024. She has taught and lectured for almost 2 decades in Brazilian higher education and community-led informal educational experiences. Her research examines obstacles faced by Black and Indigenous students, mother-students, and lower socioeconomic status students to access and persist in higher education. Dr. Mendes's experience is in qualitative research, especially critical discourse analysis and participatory research.
