OISE Higher Ed Pioneer Cicely Watson’s Legacy Lives on
Professor Emerita Cicely Watson passed away last December, but her legacy lives on.
One of the founding members of OISE, she did influential work on education reform and the planning of higher education systems. Professor Watson played a leading role in the creation of Ontario’s system of Colleges of Applied Arts and Technology. Her outstanding record of research, supervision and leadership extended well beyond her retirement in 1987.
On the occasion of Cicely’s 80th birthday in November 2001, OISE created the Cicely Watson Ontario Graduate Scholarship to honour her career-long contributions. The scholarship is awarded to OISE students whose interests lie in higher education planning and administration, as well as in education for professionals. Donations to the scholarship fund can be made online.
