As the co-founder of Angle Media Group, a digital communications company started in 2008 during The Great Recession, Athena became responsible for growing a business in a poor economy, where layoffs and company closures were high. This led to strategizing and building a business by hiring interns in cycles in order to grow and develop different parts of the business. She is confident that this strategy worked in surviving poor economic times while creating jobs and contributing to Canada’s economy. Athena’s belief that work integrated learning is arguably the most important aspect of a student’s post-secondary experience, led her to focus on experiential learning throughout her doctoral
studies at the University of Toronto, Ontario Institute for Studies in Education and to publish her thesis focused on experiential learning.
