Counselling & Clinical Psychology at UTSC Overview (Clinical Psychology Field)

The field of Clinical Psychology is offered primarily by the Department of Psychological Clinical Science at University of Toronto Scarborough Campus (UTSC).  Applicants to this field will be required to submit a separate online application from OISE graduate programs.

The mission of the Clinical Psychology Field at UTSC is, Innovators in clinical science to advance research, training and practice. We strive to provide students with state-of-the-art theoretical, research and professional training in clinical psychology. 

Our primary aim is to create leaders in clinical research and practice who function in a variety of professional settings including, research, applied, and administrative settings.

Master of Arts (MA)

This MA program is offered at the University of Toronto Scarborough.  Students are provided with a firm empirical foundation for the development and utilization of research and clinical skills, contextualized within an integrated view of science and professional practice. The MA program enables graduates to apply for registration with the College of Psychologists of Ontario (CPO) as a Psychological Associate.

Doctor of Philosophy

This PhD program is offered at the University of Toronto Scarborough. Students are provided with a firm empirical foundation for the development and utilization of research and clinical skills, contextualized within an integrated view of science and professional practice. Graduates may apply for registration with the College of Psychologists of Ontario (CPO) as a Psychologist. 

Additional Information

Graduate Students in this program are trained to:

  • Conduct research to generate new knowledge in the etiology of psychopathology, assessment, and intervention
  • Critically appraise research findings from both clinical and basic science
  • Utilize research findings in clinical decision-making
  • Modify assessment and intervention practice in light of research and evaluation outcomes
  • Communicate research findings to the wider professional community, the public, and policy makers

Faculty at the University of Toronto Scarborough Campus (UTSC) have research expertise and provide research training in:

  • clinical and cognitive neuroscience
  • psychological assessment and clinical neuropsychology
  • psychopathology 
  • personality
  • mindfulness- and acceptance-based psychotherapies
