What led you to apply to APHD at OISE?
I applied to the APHD program at OISE because it offers a unique combination of theoretical knowledge, practical training, and research opportunities, all of which align with my professional aspirations in the field. I was particularly drawn to the chance to work with my current supervisor, Dr. Roy Moodley, at the Centre for Diversity in Counselling and Psychotherapy. This opportunity has enabled me to further my research on the experiences of mixed-race individuals, an area I am deeply passionate about.

What was your past experience like?
I have gained experience in a variety of different settings. Before coming to OISE, I decided to focus on building experience in the mental health field. I worked as an intern/intake coordinator at a counselling centre, volunteered at Compass Community Services as a TeleConnect Line volunteer, and served as a family support worker for a family navigating the challenges of a con who had suffered a traumatic brain injury. These roles had shaped my understanding of mental health in unique ways.

What is one thing you like most about your experience so far at OISE?
So far, my favourite experience at OISE has been the connections I have made with those within, and outside my program. I have found everyone to be very supportive and willing to help when you need it

What is your favourite thing about Toronto?
I have lived in this city my entire life, and if I had to choose one thing I love most about it, it would be the incredibly diverse food. Some of the best meals are tucked away in the most unexpected places!

What does your “weekend” typically look like?
I am a strong believer that everything in life is about balance, so I like to dedicate my weekends to recharge and do other things outside of school that fulfill me like cook, go for walks, and spend time with friends.

What are some of your hobbies & interests?
I absolutely love to travel and make it a big priority in my life. I have done several backpacking trips both solo and with friends around Australia, Europe, and Peru. I absolutely love adventure, meeting new people, and trying new things!

What is your favourite type of cuisine?
I can’t pick just one!

Where do you see yourself after you achieve your degree from APHD?
After receiving my MA in Counselling and Clinical Psychology, I hope to move onto a PhD program to deepen my expertise in the field and contribute meaningful research to the discipline. My ultimate goal is to become a licensed clinical psychologist.
