What led you to apply to APHD at OISE?
My decision to apply to the APHD program at OISE was driven by a strong inclination to help others coping with mental health issues and a desire to practice as a psychotherapist and those who seek assistance. The program's global perspective on mental health, I believe, will significantly enhance my understanding and skills in this field.
What was your past experience like?
Reflecting on my past work experience, it's been a journey of varied and enriching roles. I have worked as a counselor, taught meditation to various groups, and edited and contributed to a Buddhist Journal. My experience working in prisons with both inmates and staff was very rewarding and fulfilling and gave me valuable insights into mindfulness's therapeutic power in difficult situations. I have also been actively involved in organizing cultural and religious activities for the Buddhist community in Toronto, which allowed me to stay connected to my roots while contributing to the well-being of the community here. Writing for and editing a Buddhist journal provided me with an opportunity to share my knowledge and insights into Buddhist teachings and learn from the experiences of others who contributed and shared their experiences.
Are there any past accomplishments that you would like to highlight?
I am particularly proud of my accomplishments in conducting mindfulness meditation in prisons and my editorial contributions to Buddhist publications. These experiences have been instrumental in shaping my approach to mental health and community service.
What is one thing you like most about your experience so far at OISE?
An aspect of my experience at OISE that I cherish the most is the opportunity to connect with a diverse group of students. Hearing about their varied career aspirations and paths they plan to pursue after their degrees is genuinely inspiring. It highlights the multitude of opportunities that an OISE degree can offer.
What is your favourite thing about Toronto?
As for my life in Toronto, the city's vibrant multiculturalism is my favourite aspect. The diversity of food and culture in different boroughs of the city has been a constant source of enjoyment and exploration for me.
What does your “weekend” typically look like?
My weekends are typically dedicated to my responsibilities as a Buddhist priest affiliated to a temple and helping individuals who seek mental support, especially those who prefer a secular approach. This allows me to give back to the community in a meaningful way.
What are some of your hobbies & interests?
In terms of hobbies and interests, I have a keen interest in traveling. I've had the opportunity to visit many historical and natural places, each journey adding to my understanding and appreciation of the world.

Asian cuisine holds a special place in my heart. Its diverse flavors and styles remind me of home and provide a comforting culinary experience.
Where do you see yourself after you achieve your degree from APHD?
Looking to the future, upon completion of my degree from APHD, I envision myself using my newfound knowledge and skills to improve communications and better interactive outcomes with students, particularly through Mindfulness Cognitive Behaviour Therapy. In the long run, I aim to integrate my understanding of developmental psychology, education, and Buddhism to address the rising challenges in mental health.
