Climbing the charts: QS World Rankings places OISE third globally in latest subject ranking
The Ontario Institute for Studies in Education continues to rise in the QS World University Rankings, placing as the third highest ranked educational institution globally.
OISE, which was ranked fifth in 2020 and seventh in 2019, remains the highest ranked Canadian institution. The University of British Columbia is now ranked 10th.
"I am extremely proud that OISE has been ranked third—and just ahead of Oxford—in the QS rankings. These rankings are based largely on academic reputation and research, both of which say a great deal about the international nature of our activities, and the strength and impact of our research in education," said Professor Glen Jones, Dean of OISE. "This is a community accomplishment – our faculty, staff, students and alumni have all played a role in positively influencing our global reputation.
"It is also wonderful to have some extremely positive news in the context of the pandemic. Congratulations to us!"
The QS World University Rankings by Subject highlights universities that are leading across education, teacher training, and academic studies in education subjects. Rankings are determined using 13 performance indicators grouped into five areas – which include teaching, research, citations, international outlook, and industry income.
Founded in 1965 by an act of Ontario Legislature, OISE is one of the largest and most research-intensive faculties of education in North America and is recognized as a global leader in graduate programs in teaching and learning, continuing teacher education, and education research.
