Professor Abby Goldstein appointed Chair of the Department of Applied Psychology and Human Development

Professor Abby Goldstein has been appointed Chair of the Department of Applied Psychology and Human Development for a five-year term beginning July 1, 2024. 

Dr. Goldstein received a PhD in Clinical Psychology from York University in 2005. Following a clinical internship at Brown University and postdoctoral fellowships at York University and the University of Michigan, she joined OISE's Department of Applied Psychology and Human Development as an Assistant Professor in 2008. She achieved tenure and promotion to Associate Professor in 2014. 

Goldstein served as Associate Chair of the department from January 2020 to June 2023. Her previous administrative roles included serving as Program Chair of APHD's Counselling Psychology Program (2013-14) and Counselling and Clinical Psychology Program (2014-15). She is also a past President of the Society for the Study of Emerging Adulthood (2021-23) and past Chair of the Addiction Psychology Section of the Canadian Psychological Association (2012-15) and a past Academic Member of the Council of the College of Psychologists of Ontario (2011-2014).

Goldstein is a licensed clinical psychologist whose research examines mental health, substance use, and well-being during emerging adulthood. Since 2016, she has held a Tier 2 Canada Research Chair in The Psychology of Emerging Adulthood. In 2012, she was the recipient of the Harvey Brooker Award for Excellence in Clinical Training from the Ontario Psychological Association. Her publications include more than 60 refereed journal articles, and her research has been funded by SSHRC, CIHR, the Ontario Ministry of Research and Innovation, and the Canadian Foundation for Innovation. Dr. Goldstein teaches courses in psychological assessment and approaches to assessment and intervention of addictive behaviours.
